Sports Premium is an amount of money which the government has allocated to schools to promote and develop Physical Education and School Sport provision. Schools receive a lump sum and a premium amount per pupil. The premium money has to be spent exclusively on extending the opportunities for all pupils to experience high quality PE lessons, activities and competitive school sport.

In 2017/2018 we received £19,630.00.

Sports Premium Grant Heron PE Action Plan

At Heron we plan to have achieved the following priorities as set out in our SDP (point 1.7 & 1.9) and PE action plan:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – stimulating healthy active lifestyles and choices
  2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  3. The increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. A broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. An increased participation in competitive sport As a commitment to meeting these priorities Heron has already affiliated to a number of sporting bodies:
    Gloucester School Sports Network (GSSN) allows our pupils and staff access to enhanced physical activities and sporting opportunities in connection with other schools in Gloucester.
    The Youth Sport Trust (YST). Their expertise in Physical Education, enables staff to participate in high quality assured continued professional development and training.
    Gloucester Rugby community scheme entitles our pupils to become part of the Gloucester rugby family participating in community events, Rugby festivals and receive expert coaching form members of the community department through Hartpury College.
    Gloucester Primary Schools’ Football Association (GPSFA) provides a great range of organised competitive fixtures throughout the whole year across a number of sports, with schools across the City of Gloucester. It also qualifies Heron to nominate talented pupils for District trials at U10 and U11 level for both girls and boys.
    The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) affiliation provides: inter-school competitions (at Oxstalls Sports Park Tennis Centre), CPD training for staff including resources and the opportunity to access tickets to the All England Championships, at Wimbledon via a membership ballot.
